Overview |
Under the Social Security disability program (SSD), the amount of your monthly disability check depends on how much your earnings were while you were working. The higher your earnings were, and the longer you worked, the more your check will be.
You can receive benefits for up to 12 months prior to your application date, however, you cannot receive benefits for the first 5 months your are disabled.
SSDI payments are processed at one of the many payment centers located throughout the United States. SSD benefits are staggered according to your birth date. For all Social Security beneficiaries receiving benefits after April 1997 you are paid as follows:
- If your birth date is on the 1st through the 10th of any month, you will receive your benefits on the Second Wednesday of the month.
- If your birth date is on the 11th through the 20th of any month, you will receive your benefits on the Third Wednesday of the month.
- If your birth date is on the 21st through the 31st of any month, you will receive your benefits on the Fourth Wednesday of the month.
